Kohl's Activates Rooftop Solar Rollout

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (September 28) -- Kohl’s flipped the switch on a rooftop solar energy system at its location here, as part of the launch of its photovoltaic solar rollout to 63 of its 80 California stores.

When completed, Kohl’s solar program will represent approximately 15 percent of California’s photovoltaic installations to date, and will generate more than 35 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy annually, or the equivalent of powering an estimated 3,087 California homes.
The retailer is working closely with the State of California to help meet the goals set by Governor Schwarzenegger and the Public Utility Commission. Under the 2007 California Solar Initiative (CSI) program, the state expects to build solar power systems totaling 3,000 megawatts of power by 2017. At 25 megawatts, the total projected capacity of Kohl’s solar systems will be larger than that of the top five largest completed photovoltaic systems in the U.S. combined, the company said in a statement.

Way to go Kohls!  Almost makes me want to shop there.
